Frank L asked:
I’ve see PowerBall lottery as well as individual lotteries and there’s always just one drawing. Sometimes just one winner, sometimes split among multiple if more that one has the same numbers. From a help-the-economy standpoint wouldn’t it make more sense to have one drawing for each million instead to spread the wealth?

What guarantee do we have that people who sell lottery tickets, whether it’s the store owner or an employee, can’t scan the back of lottery scratch-off tickets and keep for themselves or sell to friends the larger winning tickets?

Like really, people who play the lottery weekly are just throwing away their money. What are the chances that they will win? Very slim. If they save all the money they use for buying lottery tickets…in 10 years. They would have saved a few thousands maybe.

My dad won $5,000 on a scratch off ticket. When he cashes it, does he have to pay the taxes up front, or can he wait and file it at the end of the year on his tax return? Just wondering how this works, I have never met anyone who one this kind of money on lottery.

I’m trying to write an article about lottery winnings. What happens after someone looks at their ticket and sees they are a big winner? We know there is a photoshoot and a large fake check, but what else? Tax forms before getting the money? etc… How can I find out?
