Glenn U asked:

I’m trying to write an article about lottery winnings. What happens after someone looks at their ticket and sees they are a big winner? We know there is a photoshoot and a large fake check, but what else? Tax forms before getting the money? etc… How can I find out?

How could you write out all possible national lottery combinations, manually or using excel?

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Liggo asked:

Is there a protocol that could calculate every possible lottery line (all 13,983,816 of them) without writing or typing them out manually? Experts in excel required.
It was the simplest way to explain the method I need to replicate for future use, not for the lottery.

What’s a better alternative to the lottery - one that has more realistic odds of winning for less prize money?

Starstruck asked:

I heard the Irish Lottery is good because you only need to match three numbers to get £500. Are there any lotteries which offer winnings of around the £200,000 to 800,000 mark with much more realistic odds of winning than the National Lottery?

Is one expected to give back lottery winnings if it was a charity lottery?

Monday, July 19th, 2010

lottery
iheartshu asked:

For example, Heart & Stroke Foundation and Princess Margaret Hospital sell lottery tickets for at least $100.00 each. Odds of winning are about 1/3 (luxury cars and homes, lump sums of cash). My question is, if you win the lump sum of money, is it expected that you will donate the money back to the cause?

Not that I’ve won or even played…I’m just curious what someone would do in that situation.

How the lottery numbers are selected by computer?

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

lottery numbers
libra1313 asked:

If the numbers are selected by computer it means that it is a special program which controls the action of computer in selecting of numbers. It is quite possible that computer can be programmed to select 6 or 7 numbers which were not scratched by players in order to boost a sale of tickets for the next draw by declaring “No Winner” of the first prize. Most of lotteries are controlled by Government who collects lots of money from the lotteries.
